Main Content

Automotive fluid transfer systems live or die by joint quality. From A/C lines and radiator coils to diesel EGR coolers and fuel delivery assemblies, brazed connections must be repeatable, corrosion-resistant, and production-friendly. Lucas Milhaupt combines IATF 16949 certified quality, vertically integrated manufacturing, and hands-on engineering support to help OEMs and Tier suppliers automate brazing steps, reduce scrap, and deliver cleaner, leak-free joints in aluminum and multi-metal assemblies. Whether you need flux-cored wire, custom preform washers for tapered valves, or highly fluid aluminum filler metals for high-throughput brazing, we’re ready to support your next program.

Why Automotive Teams Choose Lucas Milhaupt

  • IATF 16949–Certified Quality & TraceabilityOur Ribérac facility is IATF 16949 certified, and we maintain industry-specific quality systems across our global footprint to meet automotive requirements for process control, documentation, and continual improvement.

  • Vertically Integrated Manufacturing – We cast, atomize, core, coat, draw, roll, cut, and fabricate in-house, reducing variability, shortening lead times, and improving consistency for high-volume automotive programs.

  • Process Efficiency & Automation Support – Flux-cored and flux-coated brazing products help cut manual steps; our training, audits, and Center of Excellence resources support smoother line conversions and better first-pass yield.

  • Application Engineering & Custom Preforms – Work directly with our brazing engineers to tailor alloys, flux chemistries, and part-specific rings or washers that improve capillary flow, reduce porosity, and deliver clean, leak-free joints.

Automotive Applications We Support

  • A/C Systems (A/C Lines & Radiator Coils) - Automotive HVAC assemblies combine thin-wall tubing, dissimilar metals, and long capillary paths that must remain refrigerant-tight for the life of the vehicle. Our aluminum brazing consumables, including AL CC™ corrosive flux-cored wire and AL 718 Al-Si filler for aluminum-to-aluminum joints, help cut through oxide layers, improve capillary flow, and reduce flux residue that can mask leaks. Lucas Milhaupt has decades of HVAC/R coil brazing experience that we leverage for automotive thermal systems, supporting cleaner joints, easier inspection, and higher first-pass yield in volume production.

  • Diesel EGR Coolers / High-Temp Engine Heat Exchangers EGR coolers see hot, corrosive exhaust streams and severe thermal cycling, so filler metals must wet stainless structures while resisting oxidation and attack at elevated temperatures. Many diesel builders specify nickel-based / high-temperature brazing alloys for these assemblies because they maintain joint integrity where lower-melting fillers would soften.

  • Fuel & Fluid Transfer Lines / Fuel RailsFuel and fluid routing demands pressure-tight, vibration-resistant joints across long tubing runs, brackets, and complex manifolds. Lucas Milhaupt supports these builds with preforms (Silvaloy® rings) and copper or silver alloys used to braze stainless fuel lines, injector rails, and related hardware in engine bays.

  • Valve & Service Port Joints (Schrader / Tapered Connections)Service ports and Schrader-style valves are notorious leak paths when flux or filler distribution is inconsistent. Our Cone Cored™ flux-cored washer was engineered to seat properly in tapered geometries, protect flux until activation, and keep alloy in the joint, reducing starvation, porosity, and cycle time. Backed by Lucas Milhaupt’s broader flux-cored technology portfolio and operator training programs, Cone Cored helps automotive A/C and fluid systems achieve cleaner appearance and higher first-pass yield with fewer post-braze reworks.

Quality & Compliance

The vertical integration of our company reduces variability for Quality Managers and helps improve FTTQ. In an industry where quality is so inherently tied to safety, it’s vital to put your trust in a vendor with proven track record. Lucas Milhaupt Riberac holds IATF 16949 Certification for the Automotive Industry.

Leak-Free Performance

Flux-cored, application-specific products (AL CC, Cone Cored) are designed to deliver clean, reliable, leak-tight brazed joints in automotive fluid systems.

Engineering Support

Training, audits, and collabortative alloy/preform development improve productivity and performance. Our technical support staff helps customers solve their brazing and soldering challenges by recommending appropriate alloys and offering various alternatives.

AL CC™ (Aluminum Corrosive Cored Wire)

Developed for easy-to-clean, visually appealing aluminum braze joints in automotive assemblies. Promotes deep capillary flow, reduces porosity, and improves first-pass yield versus separate flux + solid wire methods. Ideal where appearance and leak-free performance matter in aluminum fluid systems.

Cone Cored™ Flux-Cored Washer

All-in-one washer engineered to improve fit and heat transfer in tapered valve joints, keeping alloy in the joint and reducing starvation, porosity, and scrap. Flux is built in, no messy manual application, supporting faster cycle times and stronger, more consistent valve and service port brazes in high-volume automotive production.

AL 718

A general-purpose, free-flowing aluminum-silicon brazing alloy for joining aluminum to aluminum in A/C and heat-transfer components; available in Handy One® flux-cored forms for automated brazing. Offers good corrosion resistance and capillary action at relatively low brazing temperatures, supporting high-throughput production of aluminum A/C systems and fluid transfer assemblies.
