Brazing Copper to Steel with Handy One®

Traditional Braze Alloy and Flux Paste vs. Flux-cored Brazing Products

In less than five minutes, this technical video clip from Lucas-Milhaupt will show you the Handy® way to improve your process for brazing copper to steel.

Handy One® flux-cored products offer these benefits:

  • No separate flux-application step is required, saving time.
  • The inconsistencies of operator flux application are avoided.
  • Joint quality is improved, the process is streamlined, and manufacturing costs are better controlled.

Brazing Video

There are three flux-cored Lucas-Milhaupt products commonly used for brazing  copper to steel:

  • Braze 560 - lowest temperature, Cadmium-free silver braze alloy
  • Braze 505 - intermediate melting temperature, multi-purpose silver braze alloy
  • Braze 380 - intermediate melting temperature, low-silver alloy

This video clip provides a demonstration using Braze 560 to join copper and steel.  We'll show you a proper joint gap (0.002-0.005" or 0.05-0.13mm).  Then, we will demonstrate these important steps:

1.    Preparing materials for braze

2.    Heating the joint area (tip: watch for a color change )

3.    Applying Handy One (tip: use the alloy to test the temperature)

4.    Drawing the braze alloy into joint to join the metals

5.    Quenching the assembly and inspecting the joint
